| Round 2 of my blog round up.... I was worried at the beginning of the week that I wouldn't find enough blogs to manage to keep this up for a second week, given that I covered an entire month in my first round up! However, my fears have been unfounded! There's been a plethora of posts to round up!
Ok this is a set of blog posts that were interesting to me for a couple of reasons. Its a neat little javascript calculator and there's some interesting CSS/layout discussions here. It all started f |

Book reviewer Marcos Placona | Publisher: Packt. Author(s): Jonathan Chaffer and Karl Swedberg
JQuery is one of the coolest JavaScript libraries ever released, and has been growing massively on the Web Development scene since it's release in early 2006. As a big fan of JavaScript libraries, I decided to write this book review.
"Learning jQuery" is a great complement to jQuery's official documentation, having a nice and clean structure all the times within the book

Fridays Joke: Polos (Lifesavers to others) |

05-Sep-08 01:48 AM |
|
|
Let me start with, this joke is about Polo's so in an effort to do some trans-atlantic translations I think these are known as Life Saver in the US. Enjoy!
A college professor was doing a study testing the senses of first year schoolchildren, using a bowl of fruit Polos.
He gave all the children the same kind of Polo, one at a time, and asked them to identify them by colour and flavour.

How I treat the links on my blog with JQuery. |
|
04-Sep-08 06:35 AM |
|
|
This is a very quick and dirty example of how to treat links on your blog / website using JQuery.
I've been using JQuery for a while now to ease my life with some personal applications and at work.
One of the greatest things about JQuery in my opinion is it's great interaction with the DOM, and ability to make global changes with very little effort.
Some time ago I've implemented a simple WYSIWYG editor on my blog to facilitate tasks like text format and link creation. Link creation |
CF411 Tools and Resources for ColdFusion |
|
04-Sep-08 02:26 AM |
|
|
Well known in the ColdFusion community, Charlie Arehart has come up with the new CF411 site
It counts with an extraordinary amount of tools and resources related to the CFML Language.
Text extracted from the website:
How often do you see a question asked on a list, "does anyone know where I can find CFML resources about xxx", or "what tools are available to do yyy?". Now you have one place you can point people to answer most such questions.
Well done Charlie!

This is gonna be pretty much a rant about my terrible experience with the so acclaimed Chrome, released yesterday.
As soon as I heard the "buzz" about the new browser, I was excited to have it installed as soon as possible. Yes, this kind of thing sounds like a great treat for us geeks IT Professionals.
Before I start to name things, it's important to mention that Chrome can just be installed on Windows platform at this very moment. I'd say it's not the most wise decision, but they s |

Today, Adobe has finally released the portal for educators and students as previously mentioned at the CFUnited 2008.
It's great news, as Adobe will finally be able to target the Universities and Schools with ColdFusion, and maybe in a near future our kids will be able to learn some ColdFusion in school ;-)
A friend of mine has been working with Universities since the beginning of this year and has recently had some success with over 28 university students learning ColdFusion |
Who wants A Wee Dram of Scotch? |

On the last week, Wee Dram has been announced. It's organized by the same guys doing Scotch On The Rocks, so it's a "must go".
This time it's gonna be in London at the Square Pig, in Holborn, and it's a replacement for the sadly cancelled CFDEVCON.
Some of the CFDevcon's US speakers will be there, as well as all the great European speakers we already know.
I'll post some information here about what will happen there:

Thanks for Scott Stroz for sending in this age related joke as my age turned to the dark side yesterday (30)
A young man goes to a golf club to play a quick round. To his dismay, he is paired with an 85 year old man. The yong man feels that the old man will slow him down, but much to his delight, the old man keeps up. The old man hit the ball straight down the fairway every time. During the round, the old man would offer unsolicited advice to the young man, but the young man never |

Who is up for a wee dram on the 25th September? |

27-Aug-08 05:05 AM |

For those of you who might not know A Wee Dram is a Scotish euphemism for a single shot of malt Scotch
Or in the case of ColdFusion developers its a single one day shot conference being held in the wake of CFDevcon being cancelled on Thursday 25h September.

Setting up Apache and Subversion on JeOS (Ubuntu) |

I'll be honest, I don't have much linux experience. I've always liked the idea of Linux and a command line driven OS but as soon as I see the GUI I tend point and click, which means I don't learn anything new. Then comes along JeOS (Just enough OS, pronounced as "juice") from Ubuntu which doesn't give you a GUI, it just gives you the bare minimum to run a server. It's designed for VM's and perfect for running a Subversion server on your local machine in the background. The specs are:
